Bhanu Saptami Ritual (At Home)

What You’ll Need:

  • A clean red cloth
  • A picture or symbol of Surya Dev (a printed photo or copper sun symbol)
  • A small copper or brass pot for water (lota)
  • Red flowers (hibiscus is ideal)
  • Jaggery, wheat grains, and sandalwood
  • Ghee lamp and incense sticks
  • A clean place facing East (sunrise direction)

Step-by-Step Ritual

1. Early Morning (Before Sunrise):

  • Wake up early and take a bath.
  • Clean your puja space and face East.

2. Surya Arghya (Water Offering):

  • Fill the lota with water and add the following: red flowers, jaggery, and sandalwood powder.
  • Stand facing the rising sun (or East direction if not visible).
  • Pour the water slowly while chanting: "Om Suryaya Namah" (Repeat 11 or 21 times).

3. Puja Setup:

  • Place the red cloth on a platform.
  • Put the image/symbol of Surya Dev on it.
  • Offer red flowers, jaggery, and wheat grains.
  • Light the ghee lamp and incense.

4. Mantra Chanting:

  • Gayatri Mantra: (Chant 3 or 11 times)

    "Om Bhur Bhuvah Swaha
    Tat Savitur Varenyam
    Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi
    Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat"

  • Surya Beej Mantra: (Chant 11 times)

    "Om Hraam Hreem Hraum Sah Suryaya Namah"

  • Aditya Hridaya Stotra (optional): Recite or listen to audio.

5. Closing & Prayer:

  • Close with a simple prayer asking for health, energy, and protection.
  • Optional: Donate food or clothes to someone in need for additional blessings.

Additional Tips:

  • Keep your mind focused on the blessings of Surya Dev during the ritual.
  • Perform the ritual during the early morning hours, particularly just before sunrise.
