Surya Worship Rituals

1. Early Morning Ritual (Surya Arghya)

  • Wake up before sunrise, preferably during Brahma Muhurta.
  • Take a bath, ideally in a holy river or water body.
  • Offer Arghya (water offering) to the rising sun while chanting Surya mantras or Gayatri Mantra.
  • Add red flowers, rice, and sandalwood to the water offered.

2. Fasting (Vrat)

  • Devotees observe a partial or full-day fast.
  • The fast is often broken after offering prayers to Surya and performing rituals.
  • Some consume only fruits, milk, and simple sattvic food.

3. Worship and Offerings

  • Install an image or idol of Surya Dev on a red cloth.
  • Offer red flowers, jaggery, wheat, sugarcane, and red sandalwood.
  • Light a ghee lamp and burn incense.

4. Recitation and Chanting

  • Recite Aditya Hridaya Stotra, Surya Ashtakam, or Surya Sahasranama.
  • Chanting "Om Suryaya Namah" or Gayatri Mantra is considered powerful.

5. Charity (Daan)

  • Donating items related to the sun such as jaggery, wheat, copper, red cloth, or ghee is highly auspicious.
  • Feeding Brahmins or the needy is also encouraged.

6. Visit a Surya Temple

  • If possible, visit a Surya Mandir (Sun temple) or any nearby Shiva/Vishnu temple (as Surya is also associated with both).

These rituals are believed to bring good health, vitality, prosperity, and relief from ailments, especially related to skin, eyes, and bones.
