Over two thousand years ago, in a quiet corner of the Roman Empire, there lived a man named Jesus of Nazareth. He was a kind and compassionate teacher, known for performing miracles, healing the sick, and spreading a message of love, forgiveness, and peace. People from all walks of life followed Him, touched by His words and deeds.
But not everyone welcomed His teachings. Some powerful leaders saw Him as a threat to their authority and plotted against Him. Eventually, Jesus was arrested and brought before the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate. Though Pilate found no guilt in Him, he gave in to the crowd’s demands and sentenced Jesus to be crucified.
Good Friday is the day Christians remember the crucifixion of Jesus. On this day, He carried a heavy wooden cross through the streets of Jerusalem, where He was nailed to it and left to die on a hill called Golgotha. It was a day of pain, sorrow, and silence. But even in His suffering, Jesus forgave those who hurt Him, saying, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
Though it may seem like a day of defeat, Good Friday is called “good” because it marks the ultimate act of love and sacrifice. Christians believe that through His death, Jesus took upon Himself the sins of the world, offering salvation and hope to all.
But the story doesn’t end there. Three days later, on Easter Sunday, Jesus rose from the dead, proving that love is stronger than hate, and life is greater than death.
