Rituals On Hanuman Jayanti


Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Hanuman, a revered devotee of Lord Rama and a symbol of strength, devotion, and courage. The rituals vary by region, but common practices include

1. Early Morning Rituals

Bathing and Fasting

  • Devotees wake up early, take a bath, and observe a fast.
  • Fasting is done to purify the body and mind.

Temple Visits

  • People visit Hanuman temples to offer prayers.
  • Devotees often apply sindoor (vermilion) to Hanuman idols as it is believed to be auspicious.

2. Worship and Offerings

Panchamrit Abhishek

  • Hanuman idols are bathed with panchamrit, a mixture of milk, curd, honey, ghee, and sugar.

Offerings

  • Devotees offer red flowers, bananas, laddoos, and jaggery to Lord Hanuman.
  • Chanting of Hanuman Chalisa, Bajrang Baan, and Hanuman Ashtakshara mantra is common.

3. Special Pujas and Aartis

Hanuman Aarti

  • Special aartis are performed in temples and homes.

Coconut and Prasad Distribution

  • Coconut, sweets, and chana (black gram) with jaggery are distributed as prasad.

4. Processions and Celebrations

In some regions, large processions with Hanuman idols are carried out. Devotional songs and bhajans are sung in praise of Lord Hanuman, and the atmosphere is filled with joyous celebrations.

5. Charity and Seva

Many devotees engage in charity by feeding the needy, distributing food, or donating to temples. This act of giving is believed to bring blessings and increase the devotee's spiritual merit.

6. Breaking the Fast

After completing prayers and rituals, devotees break their fast by consuming prasad, which is considered sacred food blessed by Lord Hanuman.
