Story of Lord Ganesha

Once upon a time, in the heavens above, all the gods were in deep worry. The world below was full of struggles. People were facing problems—illness, poverty, conflicts—and no one knew how to make things better.

Seeing this, the gods went to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati for guidance. Parvati Mata, full of love and compassion, decided to create a power that could remove all the obstacles from the lives of people. And so, from the sandalwood paste on her body, she created a divine child—a strong, kind, and wise boy—Lord Ganesha.

Little Ganesha, with his elephant head and sweet smile, became the remover of obstacles—Vighnaharta.

One day, Parvati wanted to take a bath, and she asked her son Ganesha to stand guard at the door. When Lord Shiva tried to enter, Ganesha, unaware of who he was, stopped him. Angry, Shiva cut off Ganesha’s head. When Parvati saw this, her grief shook the universe. To make things right, Shiva brought Ganesha back to life using the head of a mighty elephant and blessed him with a boon:

“From this day forward, Ganesha will be worshipped first, before any god or goddess, in any prayer or ritual.”

But Ganesha didn’t just help gods. He became a beloved protector of people on Earth too.

Once, a wise sage told the people, “If you ever find yourself in trouble, pray to Lord Ganesha on the night of Sankashti Chaturthi, after seeing the moon. Fast with faith, offer him durva grass, modaks, and chant his names. He will remove your sorrows.”

And from that day, every month on Sankashti Chaturthi, people began observing a fast, telling his stories, and praying for peace and prosperity. On this night, the moon shines with blessings, and Ganesha listens closely to the prayers of his devotees.
