Once upon a time in a quiet town, there lived a smart little girl named Mira. She loved listening to stories from her grandmother every night before bed.
One evening, Mira saw her grandmother looking at the moon and praying with folded hands. “Dadi, what are you doing?” Mira asked.
Her grandmother smiled and said, “Today is Sankashti Chaturthi, dear. It’s a special day when we pray to Lord Ganesha to remove all our troubles and bring us happiness.”
Mira’s eyes sparkled. “Tell me more, Dadi!”
Grandmother nodded and began the story.
The King’s Story
Long ago, there was a kind king who loved his people. But one day, his kingdom was struck by many problems—no rain, sick animals, and sad people.
The king didn’t know what to do. Then a wise sage told him, “Fast and pray to Lord Ganesha on Sankashti Chaturthi, the fourth day after the full moon. He is the remover of obstacles.”
The king followed the advice. He fasted, prayed, and saw the moonrise before breaking his fast, just as the sage said. And guess what?
Miracles began to happen!
It rained, the animals were healthy again, and the people were joyful.
Since then, people celebrate Sankashti Chaturthi by fasting, praying, and waiting to see the moon, which is said to bless those who worship Ganesha on this day.
Back to Mira
Back in the present, Mira looked up at the glowing moon and whispered, “Thank you, Ganesha, for always helping us.”
From that day on, every Sankashti Chaturthi, Mira would help her grandmother prepare for the puja, learn new prayers, and feel happy knowing Ganesha was always watching over them.
